Name That Bonbon! Chocolate South Coats Confection Contest with Sweet Rewards

What’s in a name? At Chocolate South, nomenclature reflects fine ingredients plus a thick slathering of Southern traditions. Each chocolate-laden bite renders riches of premium ingredients and liqueurs, organic cream and spices, and local finds like Georgia pecans. How to describe such bonny bonbons? Hold a “Name that Bonbon!” contest. 

Through May 1, stop by the shop on Atlanta’s Westside, sample the yet-to-be-named confection and fill in one of the special entry cards with your suggested moniker (and your name, of course, in case you win). Chocolate South will select a winner to receive recognition on the Chocolate South Facebook page, in their newsletter and display case; a Southern Culture Box containing one each of Ray, Elvis and “Allmand” Brothers from the Southern Musician Collection and Scarlett, Scout and Stella from the Southern Literature Heroines Collection; and a $25 Chocolate South gift certificate. Feeling the sweet rush already!

Vote with Your Tastebuds on Hearth Tavern Pizza Contest Finalists

Candidates are in for Hearth Pizza Tavern’s pizza contest. Each pie on the finalist slate will have its own week on the menu, in the oven and on customer tabletops. Sales determine which pizza developer will take home first prize of a $100 Hearth Pizza Tavern gift card and a coveted spot on the menu, a $75 gift card for second place or a $15 gift card for third place. Week one featured (Meat) Ballin’ Outrageous by Randy Robbins, topping homemade marinara sauce with premium cheese blend, chorizo, salami, meatballs, spinach and red onion. Through March 30, guests can try All Red Everything, a Facebook entry from Hannah, that’s well-red with homemade marinara, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, sundried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic and fresh mozzarella (granted, mozzarella is cream-colored). March 31-April 6, opt for the Sardinian Shrimp pizza, a Facebook entry from Mark, swimming out of the oven with shrimp, basil, pine nuts and fresh basil tossed on top after exiting the oven. We may have to order one of each!

The tournament started with 64 of Atlanta's top restaurants divided into four categories - "Gastropubs and Bars," "High Rollers," "Global Eats" and "Southern, Dressed Up or Down Home." Help your picks advance by voting for Round 2 contenders by 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. Our personal picks to go all the way include JCT. Celebrate Chicken and the Egg’s First Anniversary With Fun Prizes, Discounts, Contests This August



Congrats to Chicken and the Egg! This delicious Marietta restaurant opened in August 2011 and is now celebrating its anniversary month with a variety of specials and contests to thank guests for their support throughout the eatery’s first year.


Feeling lucky? The restaurant will hand out golden eggs containing different prizes to each table Monday, August 13 through Thursday, August 16. The prizes range from complimentary beverages to a dinner for two!

Chicken and the Egg is also offering a teacher appreciation special from now through Tuesday, August 14. Teachers who show their school ID to their server will receive 15 percent off their meal and can register to win a Chicken and the Egg sponsored class party!

If you've been snap happy with your camera or iPhone on your past visits to Chicken and the Egg, be sure to check out the restaurant’s Facebook photo contest to submit your photos from the restaurant’s first year of being open. The contest will run until Tuesday, August 20 and the tasty prize is dinner for two – a $50 value!

New England Country Soup Hosts a Southern Souper Battle


On Saturday, March 24, Southern soup lovers will compete for the chance to win the New England Country Soup Challenge. With the all-natural New England Country Soups available on Publix shelves, the Vermont-based creator of healthy, "tastes as good as homemade" soups has extended its Soup Challenge contest to the Southeast. The five regional finalists were chosen based on their original and family soup recipes, which they submitted online. This Saturday local souper-stars Jenny Levison of Souper Jenny and Chef Jim Gallivan of The Art Institute of Atlanta will help judge the 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. stockpot showdown at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta. The finalist who comes closest to matching the taste and nutrition of New England Country Soup offerings will win a foodie weekend getaway at The Hob Knob Eco Boutique Hotel on Martha's Vineyard. With the mustachioed month of Movember over, it’s time to show off Atlanta’s finest beards. Make sure to use your beard bars to look your bearded best, and head on over to the first ever Battle of the Beards! On Saturday, December 3, Woodfire Grill's Kevin Gillespie and his fiery red beard will be one of the celebrity judges plucking winners from the chin-coiffed pack. Open to ages 21 and older, the party at the Highland Inn Ballroom will have events the hirsute and not-so-hairy will enjoy including festival merchandise, local artist vendors, live music, stand-up comedy, food trucks and a full bar. Summer days have been so hot lately that it’s almost too hot to go outside. One way to cool down is by creating your very own delicious milkshake. Mayfield Dairy is hosting its Second Annual Mayfield Dairy Millkshake Recipe Contest until August 15. By submitting your recipe at www.belowzerohero.com, you have the chance to win a $10,000 grand prize and enjoy your ultimate milkshake creation. The Atlanta-based dairy churned out a survey that should provide some helpful tips for you when you create your milkshake masterpiece. The shakedown discovered that Americans prefer to blend their shakes with fresh fruit such as strawberries (#1) and bananas (#2) over candy. Contrary to stereotypes about women and chocolate, slightly more males than females go for chocolate add-ins.
