Pucker up for pickles on the MLA Pinterest page! Check out our Perfectly Pickled board for great ideas for making pickles. It's easy! (I'm partial to pickled okra if you need a taste tester.)

Gunshow and King + Duke Heat Up GQ's Best Restaurants of 2014 List

It didn't take long for the city of Atlanta to catch the bug - and now, it's spread across the nation. Symptoms of this epidemic include: uncontrollable cravings for unique cuisine, addiction to energetic atmospheres and inability to turn down a dinner invite. The culprits: Kevin Gillespie's Gunshow and Ford Fry's King + Duke. The national buzz created by these Atlanta restaurants have landed them on GQ's list of "The 12 Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2014." Alan Richman, the magazine's award-winning food correspondent, remembers the moment his revelation hit. While at King + Duke, Richman recalls, "I sat up straight and thought: This is the one. This is informal American dining, perfected." His experience at Gunshow left him saying, "I don't recall so many styles of cooking from one restaurant kitchen, and each dish is successful, because every cook specializes in the cuisine he or she knows best." We couldn't agree more, Alan - this list has certainly received the Peach State's stamp of approval!

#Foodgram of the Week: @hearthpizzatavern

We're warning you now; this is not a blog post for readers with empty stomachs. Once you take a glimpse at the perfect pizzas, refreshing cocktails and other tavern favorites on display at the @hearthpizzatavern Instagram page, you'll drop whatever project you're working on and drive straight to Sandy Springs to visit Hearth Pizza Tavern in person. Don't you wish you could reach into your screen and grab a slice of their pizza, a spoon of the seafood chowder or a few bites of roasted cauliflower? Not even mentioning the Tuesday Tini's snapshot. Act responsibly. Close the site before you get behind the wheel -- it's just too darn deliciously distracting.

Take it to the top at Nikolai's Roof: Reopening This Friday

N

When you press the elevator button to soar to the top of the Hilton Atlanta, you are on your way to a night of great dining and a fun experience. No longer your parents' restaurant, Nikolai's Roof has a new look and new menu that you'll love. Seriously, it's beautiful. And if you ever saw it before, well, you won't recognize it. At all. Think muted cream and grey walls punctuated with walnut tables and glass ribbon chandeliers. Floor-to-ceiling windows. Tremendous views of the city. The BEST Moscow Mule in an icy copper mug.

But how about the food? Chef de cuisine Stephanie Alderete deftly blends some Russian influences into her fresh-yet-timeless creations that may be enjoyed à la carte or in three-, four- and six-course options starting at $55. Conversation areas in the Lounge give you a bird's-eye view of downtown Atlanta and are ideal landings for drinks and signature piroshkies after work. Nikolai's Roof serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dinner guests enjoy complimentary valet parking at the front of the hotel and a direct ride from lobby to restaurant in a glass express elevator. The one with the glowing yellow button. Enjoy!

Hit the Red Carpet for 10th & Piedmont Oscar Party on March 2 and Mardi Gras Party on March 4

And the award for the best week of parties goes to... *drumroll* 10th & Piedmont! Two star-studded phenomena -- the Academy Awards and Mardi Gras occurring in the same week -- catapult the midtown hot spot into revelry mode and put two big bashes on the can't-miss calendar. Strike a pose at the Red Carpet Oscar Party on Sunday, March 2 from 7 p.m. until who knows when. Host Angelica D'Paige leads the evening where suspense unfolds on the jumbo screen and $15 bottomless Champagne enables congratulatory toasts and drowns disappointments. Bust out your black tie or favorite designer dress to compete in the best-dressed contest, then make your own award picks on your personal Oscar ballot. Winners in both contests take home cash and prizes (better, we think, than a dust-catching statue). Reservations and information: 404-602-5510.

On Tuesday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m., the red carpet comes up and Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold roll out for a Fat Tuesday Bash featuring all-you-can-eat low country boil and all-you-can-drink select premium beers. Local singer/songwriter James Patrick Morgan performs. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. Book a table for your krewe today and let the good times roll!
